Getting Started With WordPress Development

This short article with guide you in getting started with WordPress development on Windows.

You need to install several components/software programs to get started.

1# Once you download 1) IIS Express & 2) PHP, you need to register PHP with IIS Express. Run the below code in your command prompt as an administrator.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\IIS Express\appcmd.exe" set config /section:system.webServer/fastCGI /+[fullPath='"C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\php-cgi.exe"']
"C:\Program Files (x86)\IIS Express\appcmd.exe" set config /section:system.webServer/handlers /+[name='PHP_via_FastCGI',path='*.php',verb='*',modules='FastCgiModule',scriptProcessor='"C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\php-cgi.exe"',resourceType='Unspecified']

Please change the paths to suit your system environment.

2# Now, install MySQL community version. Use 5.x compatibility in your installation.

3# Create your database. Use MySQL Workbench if needed.

4# Unzip and install WordPress. Modify your “wp-config.php” file.

5# Install IIS Express for Visual Studio Code. Done! You can now run and start development on your project using Visual Studio Code or your other favourite text editor.
